The RIC style of hearing instrumet is one of the most common styles used today due to its versatility. It can be configured for all but the most severe degree of hearing loss and is very comfortable and inconspicuous. This style of instrument can be fully featured with the most advanced chip sets and wireless accessories. This style is often recommended for individuals needing an "open" fitting.

The CIC is one of the most common custom designed and fit hearing instruments today. The CIC can be fully featured including the use of wireless accessories. It is restricted to use for up to a moderate to severe degree of hearing loss. Patients with very small ear canals or unusually shaped ear canals may not be a candidate for this style. The IIC is a version of this style that fits deeper in the ear canal and is used for up to a moderate degree of hearing loss.
The ITC style of hearing instrument is very common for those who wish to use a custom device that may be a bit easier to handle than a CIC. The battery is somewhat larger, and this style will accommodate a more severe degree of hearing loss. This style can be configured with twin microphones and more "on-board" user controls than a CIC if desired. Fully-featured chipsets are available including wireless accessories and an automatic t-coil.
The ITE may be the style of choice for those wishing to use a custom instrument with the most power and longest battery life. This stlye can be fully featured with the most advanced chipset and features including wireless accessories.
The BTE style may be used for those needing more power than a custom instrument can deliver, or for those needing an "open" fitting. They can be configured with a conventional earmold and tubing or with "slim" tubing for a less conspicuous appearance.
